چکیده
The important role of the vitamin B12 coenzyme (FIGURE 1) in biochemiStryl and the discovery of a relatively easy method of conversion of the cobalamins to the coenzymes as well as a wide variety of cobalt-alkyl and cobalt-acyl analogues2 • .s,4.1i has stimulated a thorough examination of the structure, properties, and reactions of these unique compounds, which are the first examples of stable cobalt-alkyl derivatives!!

Concerning the intermediacy of organic radicals in vitamin B12-dependent enzymic reactions.
The vitamin B12 coenzyme adenosylcobalamin assists the enzymic catalysis of molecular rearrangements of the type (formula; see text) in which the migrating group X can be OH, NH2 or a suitable substituted carbon atom such as C(=CH2)CO2H. This paper discusses evidence for the participation of organic radicals as intermediates in these reactions. Theoretical and model studies supporting the inter...

Molecular modeling analysis of charge density and heat of fornation by PM3 method as well as C, H NMR and 2D-NMR measurements of histidine (substrate) and some of its derivatives as histidine decarboxylase inhibitors were performed. It was established that the atom, usually nitrogen, which forms internal aldimine with pyridoxal5 -phosphate (PLP), (coenzyme), has negative and almost equal ...
متن کاملThe activity of coenzyme Q10 and its analogues in the succinoxidase system of electron transport particles.
The introduction of nonpolar solvent extraction procedures by Nason and Lehman (1, 2) has led to the recognition of the role of lipids and fat-soluble vitamins in the electron transport system of mitochondria. In addition to neutral lipids, phospholipids, and cholesterol, a-tocopherol also has been detected in mitochondria (3-5). Although vitamin K1 has been implicated in oxidative phosphorylat...
متن کاملThe Vitamin B 12 Coenzyme
INTRODUCTION In 19'58 Barker and his associates l 3 recognized a new coenzyme which controlled the conversion of glutamate into ,8-methylaspartate by Clostridium tetanomorph'im. The coenzyme was shown4 to be related to ",-vitamin B12, i.e. contair ing an adenine nucleotide grouping in place of the 5,6-dimethylbe:nziminalole nucleotide of vitamin B12, although similar coenzymes containing b{ nzi...

Since 5, 6-dimethylbenzimidazolyl cobamide coenzyme (coenzyme B12) as one of the coenzyme forms of vitamin B12 was reported by Barker et al. (1) for the first time in 1960, a good deal of works have been carried out on its biochemical and physiological roles (2-8). The recent knowledge concerning the coenzyme has revealed that it is an active form of vitamin B12 (5, 6-dimethylbenzimidazolyl cob...
